We took a 4th of July trip to the northeast corner of Washington which meant a drive across the state. First we stopped in Ellensburg, at a watering hole near Central Washington University, to watch Spain defeat Paraguay and earn a place in the World Cup semifinals. [This was a much happier finish than the gut-wrenching finish that denied Ghana a berth.] Then we stopped at the Wild Horses Monument (información en español) right along the Columbia River and did the short, steep hike up to the bluff overlooking the river. It was awesome...although Miryam needed a hand on the way back to the parking lot! Just before getting to the Inn at the Lake, we broke open the cooler for some snacks and had a walk around Gonzaga University in Spokane.
